Shoplifting hits all-time high as recession bites deep

The 2009 Global Retail Theft Barometer has been published this morning, and shows that instances of shop theft have reached an all-time high

Consumers unwilling to give up their luxury lifestyles in the recession are fuelling retail crime. Funded by an independent grant courtesy of Checkpoint Systems, the 2009 Global Retail Theft Barometer suggests that shoplifting has surged in the last 12 months, increasing by nearly 20% across the UK's High Streets and topping a staggering £4.88 billion for the first time.

A Success Story!

CMaC Ltd recently installed two Y-cam SD cameras in to a commercial premises in Luton, one externally in a Shell viewing the yard, the other internally looking at a storage area. The installation, including configuring the router for remote Internet access, was completed within the day [Homeplugs were very useful due to a metal building shielding the wireless network] and the system commissioned and left doing its job.

A break-in occured that same night, it was discovered the next morning and the required images were down loaded by a Director of the company from his home later that day. The culprit was identified and proceedings started, the Directors were delighted and have stated that the installation paid for its self in one night.
